What is Valentines day?

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day!!! A day of love, romance and sharing.. Lets talk about this kind of issue for  what we call Valentines day! Do you know where it came from? and why a lot of people celebrate this kind of celebration?

February 14, a day where  most countries are celebrating valentines day. Mostly, this day is the day of love and affection celebrated especially between lovers. Where did valentines day came from? For your information valentine's day is commonly came from one of the saint called Saint Valentine' Day. This day is a holiday for some countries which is observed during February 14 honoring one or more Christian matyrs named Saint Valentine. For them, it is tradition, which a day of two lovers expressing their love or feelings for each other by usually presenting some flowers especially roses, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards. And mostly some our dating during this day. But for me , you can celebrate valentine's day even if you are not lovers. Celebrating with you parents as well as your friends. Cause for me, Valentine's Day is a day of showing how you love your parents not only between two lovers and that is my opinion only.

This are some reasons why we do celebrate Valentine's Day?

We are not onto arguing whether you celebrate or no the day: which we called  Valentine's day, after all, this day still a hot topic to be talking about for a lot of individuals. There are lot of  stories/"chismis" about Valentine's Day, no matter what story/"chismis" you believe in at less you have few reason to celebrate it.

This story is still  being controversial whether this is true or not where every story for a lot of people  have own symbol/sign and logo which are popular till now  such as cupid, heart, note saying, red roses, etc.

We celebrated valentine day, for most Christians to honor Saint.Valentine, whom from the catholic church, we believe there were three saints were  martyred on February 14,while until 1969. In 1969, valentines day was remove from the church’s calendar but in some roman paganism  allowed it to continue as a holiday for everyone as the religious meaning couples with valentine day’s roots.

496 A.D, on February 14,Pope Gelasius declared in the name of St. Valentine. By February 14, it remained a Church holiday until 1969, when Pope Paul VI took it from the calendar in the same year.
Further more, valentine day is not only church’s holiday but it is public holiday which the church declare it to let everyone feel free to celebrate that day.

Another story comes from ancient Romans who celebrated the Feast of Lupercalia in honor of Juno, the queen of the Roman gods and goddesses. Juno was also the goddess of women’s and marriage.
The women at the feast held the next day would write love letters and stick them in a large urn then the men would pick a letter from the urn and for the next year, then pursue the women who wrote the chosen letter.

Where this tradition last until the 1700s when people change their mind to decided their beloved should chosen by sight and heart not just luck.

This feast honor of Juno which Romans believe honoring her was thought to be a fertility rite.
Cupid also is famous symbol of valentine where this is a different story comes from Greece. In this story when a couple is hit by cupid arrow they will become fall in love each other.
So whatever the story is, everyone have reason to celebrated valentine day at least by this article you know why we celebrate valentine day.
